How can I be sure my baby is eating enough?

In general babies are always far more efficient at emptying the breast than a pump. Most of us are concerned that our babies are not getting enough. But them acting like "they are hungry" is not always and indication ofr food. Remeber babies have little experience with the world. They for the most part cry when they want something and we need to figure out what they need. Typically if they are not wet and dont burp we feed them. Sometimes they just the warmth and to be snuggled.


So how do you know if you are feeding them enough?


How to evaluate how much your baby is getting:

Wet diapers - heavy wet diapers signal that the baby is getting volume.

Dirty diapers- At least one for each day of life (birth through 1 week)

What moms are most often concerned about is their baby wants to eat frequently. Often babies will cluster feed, meaning frequently eat for short periods.


However, it is important to know babies do not just go to breast because they are hungry... there are so many reasons your baby might want to go to breast.
